The next stop on our summer beer calendar: the 14th annual Parlee Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament (July 17 & 18).
Esty couldn’t find his favourite purple speedo (phew) and refused to go, so we replaced him with the Griff (He’s our delivery guy, playwright and man about town) and Andy P (He’s one of our brewers and, curiously, the proud owner of a purple speedo).
The weather lady said it was gonna be a hot one, so we decided hit the road early. Six coffees, two speeding tickets and 12 cheeseburgers later we jammed the Picaroon’s Beermobile into a sand dune and began unloading our precious cargo right there on the beach. We arrived just in time, too. It was hot!!!
Now, these ultimate players were young, tanned and strong, but they were no match for the sun-like temperatures steaming off the sand that day. The surface of the beach was 200 Celsius if it was a degree. They were dropping like flies.
Realizing the need for immediate action, P jumped into the Beermobile to slip on his speedo. Meanwhile, Griff and I prepared the Picaroon’s Beer Replenishing Pack. We were like a surgical team. Within seconds P jumped out and we had the pack on his back before his feet touched the sand. He hit the beach running with the Beer Replenishing Pack at full throttle. I don’t remember exactly what beer P was using, but judging from the reaction of the crowd it was probably Dooryard.
As soon he started releasing that refreshingly succulent spray things started happening. People began to change from the dried-out leather shoe state we found them in back into the fit, energetic and slightly hedonistic crowd one would expect to find at an ultimate frisbee event. Girls were doing cartwheels, guys started banging their chests; a group of them even started chasing P. They came close to catching him, too. Even the fish were swimming towards shore. It was total bedlam—yes sir! Then suddenly, this outrageously loud horn went off. It was time for the games to begin.
And what a time it was…sand, sun and suds. I can’t even begin to explain the after party, however, I vaguely remember a twister board and someone getting locked out of the Beermobile clad only in their boxer shorts. But I digress…
Congratulations to the Fredericton Beavers for their well-deserved victory, and to all those who participated in this year’s Parlee Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. An extra special thank you goes out to JD for organizing this great event, to Jonathan and Rachel for doing such a wonderful job with the bar and to the weather lady for forecasting such a great weekend. See you all again next year.
Later dudes,
The Picaroons Guy
