As part of the “Bring It Downtown” campaign, Downtown Fredericton Inc. invited myself and other local social media personalities to spend $100 dollars downtown on anything we wished! The catch? We had to document our entire day! As a person who loves "colouring outside the lines", I decided to take a different approach. Now don't get me wrong, the other 15 folks were incredible at documenting how they spent their Downtown Dollars. Twitter has never been the same since the inevitable #bringitdowntown hashtag. I was eager to learn who got what, and where.. So when it came my turn, I took my idea straight to my boss Sean. Last Thursday, Picaroons celebrated our annual Christmas Staff Party, now instead of the OBVIOUS Yankee swaps, Ugly Sweaters, Secret Santa's yadda yadda yadda; I got the staff $20 each in Downtown money. The catch? After many hours drinking fine beer and spirits, I had the staff pull a name from a hat and 20 minutes to spend their $20 on the name they pulled. The results? A tipsy debacle of Brewers and Brewtique staff running through the streets of Downtown Fredericton.
Here's some things we got!
A flute like noise making machine and a Fender Baseball from Tony's
Lipstick from Made you Blush for our girl Tasha
A snap bracelet/watch and Hand Buzzer from Endeavors/ThinkPlay
Salt n Pepper Shaker from Urban Almanac
Conveniently numbered Coasters from Room to Remember
A self help book from The Owl's Nest
A Toque from The Radical Edge
Dooly's Gift Certificate (thanks Dennis!)
Cocktail Shaker from Room to Remember
I spent some of my Downtown Dollars at The Snooty Fox the next day. Hungover? Just get a Crispy Buffalo Chicken Burger with Fries. It cures what ailes ya.
Here's a great shot of Melissa Wheeler from The Garrison District Ale House who catered our party. She's just cleaning up some beer that EXPLODED all over us and our office. No biggie.
A huge thank you to Shasta Stairs from Downtown Inc. and Britt Mockler for coming up with such a great idea. I cannot stress how important it is for us to support our local artisan shops & small businesses downtown. They are what allows Fredericton stand out from the rest. Well done ladies.
